When I hear people talk about how "expensive" Macintosh computers are I always like to remind them that Macs are typically configured with more options than PCs. In fact, Dan Frakes, of Macworld, sums it up: [It's] "...not that Macs are necessarily cheaper than Dells; you’ll always be able to find a cheaper low-end Dell if you try, because Dell lets you strip away features to save money (something Apple has declined to do). Rather, the point [is] that Macs and comparably-equipped, brand-name Windows PCs tend to be roughly comparable on price these days." So, Dan goes on to show a price-comparison between a Pro-level Mac and a Pro-level Dell. The first article is here. He then accepts feedback from his readers, and even goes so far as to update his original article. The update is here. It's interesting, because his article states that it's difficult to compare the low-end Mac (like a Mac mini) to a Dell. Actually, back in March, 2006, I did just that. Read my article here. You might be surprised at how it turns out!
